Differing Relationships between the treatment and medicine
In Western medicine, treatment and medicine are completely separate. Western
doctors use only Western medicines, which are chemicals created by chemists.These compounds are usually tested on animals to ensure their safety and effectiveness.
In traditional Chinese medicine, treatment and medicine are not separated. Chinese doctors are experts not only in diagnosis but also in prescribing remedies. They have comprehensive knowledge of the effects and characteristics of various medications and are able to invent requirements based on their observations of individual cases, the safety and efficacy of medicines is determined clinically.

Different drugs
The drugs usually used by Western doctors are chemically purified substances.Thus drugs are pure monomers. Purified food is harmful and purified drug is toxic. Purified Western medicines take effect quickly, but also the purity of their cause of poisoning and harmful side effects.
The use of two or more ingredients is typical of traditional Chinese medicine in order to maximize the effects of the coordination of mixing different substances. Dosages are also low, which allows the different ingredients work together to increase the effectiveness of the drug and reduce the risk of poisoning. Hence, the TCM functions in multi-modes.

Different principles of diagnosis and treatment
TCM aims to "prevent" the emergence of the disease, while Western medicine in general "treatment" of patients who are already sick. TCM agrees that drugs and foods from the same source, while Western medicine is a clear distinction between drugs and food. TCM considers that the disease comes from an imbalance in the body, whereas Western medicine recognizes only physiological, biochemical and pathological indices.
