Acupuncture, started a long time ago in China , is the practice of inserting needles at points on the body. The needles are of fine, solid, sterile, stainless steel and disposable.

There are three types of acupuncture points: meridian points, extra points and Ashi points. There are 14 meridians with 361 points, 8 extra meridians with about 100 points. Ashi points are those tender and sensitive ones on the body. They have no names, but they are often very effective, especially for pain.

Acupuncture needles stimulate a neuroimmune response involving the cardiovascular and endocrine systems and other physiological reactions through the release of neurotransmitters.

Acupuncture effectively normalizes physiologic processes to activate self-healing. Acupuncture is not pharmaceutical therapy; acu-points do not have a pharmaceutical function; and the professional practice of acupuncture does not have side effects.
