Internal therapeutic methods

The internal therapeutic methods for diseases of the nose include opening orifices with aromatic herbs, dispelling wind to relieve exterior syndrome, clearing away heat and removing toxin, clearing away heat and promoting diuresis, promoting qi flow to activate blood circulation, warming the lung and strengthening the spleen, nourishing the kidney yin, invigoration for removal of toxin,etc. As for the concrete methods, please refer to the specific discussions of the nose of the each chapter.

External therapeutic methods
The external therapeutic methods for diseases of the nose mainly include the following six ones:
Insufflation
Insufflate the medicinal powder or blow it into the nasal cavity. Take care to notice whether the drug used may stimulate or injure the nasal mucosa or not. In the case of sthenia syndromes, use Binglian Powder; in the case of asthenia syndromes, Biyun powder, etc.
Nose drops
Select drugs which constrict blood vessels of the nasal mucosa like 1% ephedrine solution and 1% furan-ephedra solution, or drugs which cure allergic rhinitis like nose drops of magnolia and centipeda.
Smearing
Smear the medicinal paste on the nasal cavity. For instance, in the case of nosebleed or dry nasal cavity, use ephedra ointment, etc.
Application
Apply Qingfu Powder, etc. on the red and swollen skin to treat nasal boil or nasoseptal abscess.
Inhalation of vapour
Decoct Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae), Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis) and Shiliupi ( Pericarpium Granati), inhale the medicinal vapour while the decoction is hot to treat nasal polyp.
Packing hemostasis
Use the method to cure nasal bleeding. The method includes packing hemostasis in anterior nostrils and packhag hemostasis in posterior nostrils.
