HPV

Human papillomavirus, or HPV, is the leading cause of cancer of the cervix. There are many different types of HPV. It is sometimes called genital wart virus that certain types of HPV can cause genital warts. In fact, the types that cause warts are not the types that cause cervical cancer. But there are other types of HPV that are considered "high risk" for cancer of the cervix. HPV is transmitted from person to person through sexual contact.

The women who develop cervical cancer have had HPV infections past. high-risk types of HPV can cause changes in the cells covering the cervix which make them more likely to become cancerous in time. But most women infected with these viruses do not develop cancer of the cervix. So other factors must also be necessary.

CIN is usually the result of infection by the virus: human papillomavirus | (HPV). HPV is a common virus that can affect the cells of the cervix. It is mainly transmitted through sexual intercourse. Most women who have had sex have the virus at some point in their lives. However, many women in their immune system to clear the virus and they will not know they ever had. The | smears can detect changes in cells of the cervix caused by HPV.

There are over 100 types of HPV, and each type is identified by a number (for example, HPV-16). Some types of HPV can cause genital warts, and other types can cause CIN in the cells of the cervix. CIN usually disappears when the immune system got rid of the virus. In some women, the virus remains for a number of years, and in some of these women of CIN to develop into cancer if left untreated.

The type of HPV can affect developing CIN or not. Only some types, such as 16, 18, 31 and 33 (known as "high risk" types) appear to be associated with the development of CIN and ultimately cervical cancer of the uterus.

Other risks

Women who smoke are more likely to have cancer of the cervix than those who do not. The pill may increase the risk of cancer of the cervix. We do not know why this is. Women with weakened immune systems are more likely to have cancer of the cervix, as well as those who had many children.

 Sexual contact

Many women are aware that sexual intercourse at an early age and having multiple sexual partners may increase the risk of developing cancer of the cervix. It is important to remember that while these factors may increase the chances of contracting the HPV virus, many women who have had only one sexual partner have HPV, and may move to develop precancerous changes of the cervix (CIN ) or cancer of the cervix. There is therefore no reason for you or others think you are to blame for cancer of the cervix. Do not forget that men also carry HPV, but the risk to their health is much less than women. And most HPV infections in men do not cause symptoms.

Condoms can help reduce the risk of HPV infection, but they do not cover all the skin and therefore are not completely effective.

 immune factors

A weakened immune system may also allow CIN to develop into cancer. The immune system may be weakened by:

    *
      smoking
    *
      poor diet
    *
infections such as HIV / AIDS.
