A healthy diet can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes

Recent research published in Medicine PLOS, the study said, intake of vegetable diet can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, vegetable oil and tea / coffee is considered healthy plant food; fruit juice, containing sugar drinks, refined grains, potatoes and candy / dessert is considered to be less healthy plant foods; animal fats, dairy products, eggs and fish / seafood, meat (poultry and red meat), and miscellaneous animal based food is considered to be animal food.

The researchers found that the incidence of type 2 diabetes was negatively correlated with the overall index of the plant diet; after correction for BMI, the association between the two was reduced, but it was still significant. A healthy diet was negatively associated with type 2 diabetes, but it was not healthy.

Participants with low adherence to the plant diet were associated with a 20% lower risk of type 2 diabetes with a high adherence to the participants (low adherence to animal foods). A healthy diet can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by 34%, but the unhealthy diet will increase the risk of type 2 diabetes by 16%.

Harvard T.H. Chen School of public health nutrition and epidemiology Professor Frank B. Hu said: "changes in dietary patterns, increase the proportion of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans and nuts, reduce animal food, especially the proportion of red meat and processed meat, can greatly reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.
